Cosplayer is...

Shona
}
Shona is a gorgeous cosplayer from Australia, she's been a supportive and
incredible contributor to the community for many years.
Her pictures always leave us in awe, especially the doppelganger and the
underworld rope repelling ones.
She's athletic and always strives for the best with her pictures, she's so
amazing at what she does, and we thought it was about time to show her how much
we appreciate her , so here she is :)

1- Tell us about yourself.
"I'm Shona and I'm from Melbourne, Australia. I work as an engineer, and
along with cosplay I love playing video games, writing and health and fitness. I
also love to travel and have adventures." |

2- Why do you cosplay Lara, what does it mean to you?
"Lara Croft is a character that I identify with on so many levels. I
love that she's strong, smart and brave, and that she gets to travel around the
world and have amazing adventures and discover wonderful things. There's a part
of me that would love to be Lara, and that's why I love to bring her to life
through cosplay. Through conventions and the internet I have met fellow Tomb
Raider fans and cosplayers and have made some amazing friends through this
hobby, so Lara will always mean a lot to me." |

3- How did you first hear about lara?
"I heard about her in the late 90's when she'd become really popular. I
remember reading about her in these PC magazines my dad used to get, and even
the newspaper. The games instantly appealed to me and the first one I tried out
was Tomb Raider III." |

4- How long have you been a lara fan?
"Since about 1999." |
 |
5- When did you get into cosplay?
"I've always enjoyed making costumes and dressing up, and I made my first
Lara Croft costume for a high school party in 2000. When I went to my first
convention in 2005 I went in costume since I assumed that most people dressed up
for conventions! I didn't take up cosplay as a hobby properly until late 2008
though when I started attending conventions more regularly. I also started doing
photoshoots in my costumes a couple of years ago, and I love setting up scenes
that really bring the character to life as opposed to having photos taken in a
convention hall." |

6- How do you assemble your outfits?
"I normally gather a bunch of reference pictures, trying to cover as
many angles and details as possible. I then break the costume down into
individual pieces and design/sketch out how each piece is going to be
constructed and what it will be made out of, and then I get to crafting! I love
cosplay because I can use so many different techniques to pull a single costume
together. I buy, make or modify things as I see fit. |

7- Favourite TR outfit:
"It's hard to go past the
classic outfit. It's so iconic. |

8- Favourite TR game:
"The Last
Revelation" |

9- What do you think of the movies?
"The movies were a lot of fun. They weren't what I'd imagined a Tomb Raider
movie would look like (I would love to see something more like Indiana Jones)
but for video game movies they really weren't that bad. I watch them every once
in a while." |

10- What is your favourite boss fight/puzzle in your favourite game?
"The T-Rex. Such a crazy fight!" |

11- How do you feel about the new origins story?
"I'm a huge fan of
the classic Lara, and so a part of me was a bit disappointed that they changed
so much of her background. That said, I really enjoyed it and I can't wait to
see what happens next and what Lara will do next." |

12- What is the one item you would add to the croft outfit?
"I really missed the backpack in the new game! Especially while
cosplaying in that outfit at conventions because it's so handy to store things
in! I think that a knife would be a really useful item to have for both survival
and combat." |

13- Who takes your photos, and what kind of equipment do you use?
"My friends have taken most of my photos. We normally use a DSLR camera and
sometimes a reflector. Most of my shoots have been outdoors, so we also take
along any equipment that we need to help set the scene. If I'm doing any stunts,
then we also bring along the necessary safety equipment such as a climbing
harness. I've also done one studio shoot and it was great to have access to all
of the lighting and fancy equipment." |

14- What are your favorite qualities that Lara upholds?
"Her strength- physically, mentally and emotionally." |

15- What is your dream Lara croft costume?
"I'd like to do some of the oufits from the comic books. I put one
outfit together, but I haven't worn it yet." |
 |
16- Do you have any advice for first time cosplayers?
"Have fun with it! It's an amazing hobby that can be incredibly rewarding. " |
